In the Cotahuasi Canyon region we work alongside the Honofre Benavides School in the town of Tomepampa. This is a public primary and secondary school. Tomepampa is located in a very remote rural region. Volunteers can support student education and share their experience of other cultures. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain teaching experience in a completely different cultural setting and to spend some time in a little-visited, yet fascinating area of Peru!
Volunteer responsibilities include: - Classroom support - Teaching English - Extra homework help and educational support after school - Supporting individual students - Chores inside the school to improve infrastructure and other tasks as needed - There is also the opportunity to help develop mini-projects according to the needs of the school and community
All are welcome to apply to volunteer, but please consider the following: - At least a lower-intermediate level of Spanish is essential in this project - The volunteer program in Tomepampa runs from March – December due to school holidays - We ask that those applying for the position of support teacher dedicate a minimum of one month
