Rural education program
HONOFRE BENAVIDES SCHOOL
Honofre Benavides School is a public primary and secondary school, located in Tomepampa, a rural village in the Cotahuasi Canyon region of Southern Peru. Our volunteers support students’ education and provide cross-cultural exposure to children at the school. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain teaching experience in a completely different cultural setting and to live in a little-visited yet fascinating area of Peru!
Volunteer responsibilities may include some of the following:
Assisting with lesson planning
Supporting at-risk students
Volunteers may also develop their own projects after consultation with and guidance from the school’s principal.
Teaching English as a foreign language or helping in a subject related to one’s major (Mathematics, History, Computer science, Literature, etc.)
Running school workshops and/or extracurricular activities (homework help, English practice, a particular sport, etc.)
Helping with chores that improves the school’s infrastructure
While we welcome all applications, please consider the following:
Intermediate Spanish or better is required for this project. Preference will be given to those with a higher level of Spanish fluency.
This project runs from March-December, due to Peru’s school calendar.
We ask that volunteers at Tomepampa’s school stay for a minimum of 1 month.
